Razer has reintroduced its iconic Boomslang mouse, celebrating the product’s 20th anniversary with a modern twist. This limited-edition release, known as the Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition, features a striking design reminiscent of the original model while integrating advanced technology, including a remarkable 45,000 DPI sensor.

Originally launched in the late 1990s, the original Boomslang mouse distinguished itself with its unique snake-head shape and a mechanical sensor that boasted a then-revolutionary 2,000 DPI. Razer now claims it was the first gaming mouse, a title that has sparked debate among enthusiasts. The new model, limited to just 1,337 units globally, is targeted at both nostalgic gamers who remember the original and new users who seek high-performance peripherals.

Modern Features with a Nostalgic Design

The Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition retains the signature snake-head outline and ambidextrous design that made the original a standout. The translucent shell and underglow lighting pay homage to the classic model, while the new nine-zone Razer Chroma RGB system allows for extensive customization through the Razer Synapse software. This balance of nostalgia and modernity ensures the mouse feels relevant in today’s gaming landscape.

Internally, the mouse is equipped with cutting-edge technology. The Razer Focus Pro 45K optical sensor delivers an impressive 99.8 percent resolution accuracy, a significant upgrade from the original’s capabilities. Additionally, the inclusion of HyperPolling Wireless technology allows for a polling rate of up to 8,000 Hz, enabling the mouse to communicate with the computer eight thousand times per second.

Enhanced Usability and Premium Feel

Razer has also improved the mouse’s charging and connectivity features. The Boomslang now operates wirelessly and comes with a Razer Mouse Dock Pro, which functions as both a charging station and a wireless receiver. Users simply place the mouse on the dock, and it begins charging automatically, a stark contrast to the wired-only original.

Furthermore, the design incorporates premium materials. The primary buttons are wrapped in PU leather, enhancing grip and providing a more tactile experience compared to traditional plastic shells. Underneath the mouse, customizable Chroma underglow lighting allows users to choose from 16.8 million colors and effects, alongside eight programmable controls for macros and profiles.

The Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition serves not only as a tribute to the origins of gaming mice but also showcases how far technology has advanced in two decades. For those who experienced the evolution of gaming peripherals, this release is a blend of nostalgia and modern performance, making it a compelling addition to any gaming setup in 2025.

By merging its storied past with contemporary advancements, Razer continues to solidify its place in the competitive gaming market. The Boomslang represents a significant milestone in the evolution of gaming mice, reminding users that innovation often has deep roots in history.
