The launch of the Pixel 10 introduces several new features that will also be available on older Pixel models, continuing a trend seen in previous flagship Android devices. Notably, the Pixel 9 series will benefit from these updates, expanding their functionality and enhancing user experience.

Key Features Rolling Out to Older Devices

Among the most significant updates is the battery health assistance feature, which helps prolong the lifespan of the phone. This feature is enabled by default on the Pixel 9a and newer models. However, users of older devices, dating back to the Pixel 6, can manually activate it. While this function is designed to extend battery life, it may lead to reduced performance after approximately 200 charge cycles.

Another enhancement is the updated call screening feature. This addition allows users to automatically record messages, functioning similarly to an advanced voicemail system. It is compatible with devices as old as the Pixel 4, but currently, it is only accessible in select regions: the U.S., U.K., Ireland, and Australia.

The calling app also introduces a feature called Call Notes, which enables users to record conversations for future reference. Presently, this capability is exclusive to the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series in the U.S.

Software and AI Upgrades Enhancing User Experience

The Pixel 10 will bring a refreshed look with the Material 3 Expressive design style. This upgrade will be available on various older Pixel models and will influence the appearance of third-party Android applications through Google’s proprietary apps.

In addition to these visual updates, Google is rolling out several enhancements to its Gemini platform, which will be accessible to many Android users and even some iOS and web users. Comprehensive details about these updates can be found in Google’s official blog post.

The integration of NotebookLM with the Pixel Recorder and Screenshots app is another notable development. This feature helps streamline the process of capturing and organizing information in the AI notebook.

Furthermore, Gboard, Google’s keyboard app, is set to receive significant updates. Enhanced AI capabilities will improve suggestions and dictation accuracy, providing a more intuitive typing experience.

For those using the updated version of the Google Photos app, new AI tools will allow users to edit images using conversational language. This means users can request specific edits, such as changing backgrounds or restoring color in old photos, which enhances the creative possibilities for photo management.

Overall, the Pixel 10’s introduction reflects Google’s commitment to enhancing the user experience across its device ecosystem, ensuring that even older models benefit from the latest technological advancements.
