New App Enhances Exploration of Elk Falls Park for All

A new mobile application is set to transform how both residents of Campbell River and tourists experience Elk Falls Provincial Park. Developed by Greencoast Media, a company based on Quadra Island, in collaboration with the Museum at Campbell River, the app is now available for free download on Apple and Google mobile app stores.
The application features a dedicated package for Elk Falls, allowing users to delve into the area’s rich natural and cultural history. Users can discover details about the history of the First Peoples, the establishment of Elk Falls Provincial Park, various habitats, and unique features of the park. A standout feature is a virtual 360-degree panorama tour, enabling users to navigate along trails while learning about the park’s wildlife and landscape.
Innovative Features Enhance Visitor Experience
In addition to the immersive trail experience, the app includes a virtual tour of both the new and old John Hart Powerhouse. According to Sandra Parrish, the director of the Museum at Campbell River, the project aims to celebrate and share the deep history and natural beauty of the region.
“This project is about more than technology; it’s about preserving and sharing the deep history and natural beauty of this place,” Parrish stated. “With this new app, visitors can experience those stories in an entirely new way, whether they’re standing on the trails or exploring from home. We’re thrilled to help bring the voices, history, and knowledge of this region to life.”
One of the practical features of the app is its offline capability, allowing users to access information about the park even without a mobile signal. This enhancement is particularly useful in remote areas of the park, ensuring that visitors can navigate and learn without interruption.
Elk Falls Provincial Park, located just outside Campbell River on Vancouver Island, is known for its stunning waterfalls, lush forests, and diverse wildlife. With the launch of this app, the park’s features are now more accessible to a wider audience, fostering greater appreciation for the natural environment and its historical significance.
As more people download and use the app, it is expected to enhance the visitor experience and encourage a deeper connection with the park’s heritage. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to promote sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship in the region, allowing both locals and tourists to engage with Elk Falls in meaningful ways.
