Mario Kart World Wins “Best Nintendo Switch 2 Game” at Gamescom

At the annual Gamescom event, Mario Kart World has been awarded the title of “Best Nintendo Switch 2 Game,” marking a significant recognition for Nintendo following its absence in 2024. The game triumphed over strong competitors, including Donkey Kong Bananza, which took home the award for “Best Gameplay,” and the much-anticipated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
A Strong Showing for Nintendo
This year’s Gamescom awards were determined by a combination of votes from a panel of expert gaming jurors and community input, celebrating achievements across various categories. While Mario Kart World excelled in the Nintendo Switch 2 category, it did not secure the gameplay accolade, which was dominated by Donkey Kong Bananza and other notable titles such as Resident Evil Requiem.
Other standout winners included Pokémon, which garnered attention for its vibrant booth display, earning the title of “Best Booth.” Capcom showcased an impressive range of titles, winning “Best Lineup,” while Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s captivating reveal earned it the award for “Best Trailer.”
Gamescom’s Competitive Landscape
Gamescom enforces specific rules for participation. Developers are required to present their titles at the event and submit them for award consideration, along with applicable fees. The complete list of winners and judging criteria is available on the official Gamescom website.
Nintendo’s recent award wins for its Switch 2 exclusives signal a promising start for the console’s new era. With titles like Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World already claiming key honors, excitement is mounting for future releases. Upcoming games, including Kirby Air Riders, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4, are anticipated to further define the growing library of the Nintendo Switch 2.
As the gaming community reflects on the successes of this year’s Gamescom, the recognition of Mario Kart World underscores its status within a competitive market and highlights Nintendo’s commitment to innovation and quality in gaming.
