Wheaton Community Drives Winter Gear Donations for Those in Need
The Wheaton Community Relations Commission has launched the annual **Wheaton Gives Back** program, offering residents an opportunity to support those in need through a winter gear drive that runs throughout October. This initiative aims to collect essential winter clothing items, including coats, hats, scarves, gloves, and mittens, for the **People’s Resource Center**.
Collaborating with several local organizations, including the **Downtown Wheaton Association** and the **Wheaton Park District**, the commission has set up collection boxes at various locations. Residents are encouraged to donate new and gently used items to help meet the growing demand for winter gear as temperatures drop.
Collection Locations and Community Impact
Collection boxes will be available until **October 31, 2023**, at numerous sites across Wheaton. Participating businesses include **Benjamin F. Edwards**, **Egg’lectic Café**, **Starbucks**, and **Wheaton City Hall**, among others. The full list of drop-off locations can be accessed online.
The drive not only provides basic necessities to those in need but also fosters a sense of community among residents. The collaboration between local businesses and nonprofit organizations exemplifies the spirit of giving that defines Wheaton, making it easier for individuals to contribute to a worthy cause.
Get Involved and Help Your Neighbors
Organizers emphasize the importance of community involvement during this critical time. Each donated item can significantly impact someone’s winter experience, offering warmth and comfort during the colder months.
For more information on how to participate in the **Wheaton Gives Back** program and to view a complete list of collection sites, residents can visit the official city website at **wheaton.il.us/WheatonGivesBack**. This initiative reflects Wheaton’s commitment to supporting its residents and ensuring that everyone has access to the essentials they need to stay warm this winter.
