Victoria Rotary Clubs Host Breakfast to Boost Literacy Programs

The Rotary Clubs of Victoria-Saanich and Oak Bay are set to host a breakfast and spelling bee on November 19, 2023, aimed at raising funds for the Victoria Literacy Connection. The event will take place at the Victoria Marriott Hotel, located at 728 Humboldt St., from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.
Participants, both individuals and company teams, are invited to compete in a lively spelling challenge. The competition culminates in a trophy presentation for the table that successfully spells 15 words correctly. Liz Lecavalier, coordinator from the Oak Bay Rotary Club, noted that participants from various professions, including lawyers, accountants, teachers, and media representatives, will face off against each other in a fun yet challenging environment.
“Even students will be challenged with some unusual words in a variety of categories,” Lecavalier said, emphasizing the event’s spirit of friendly competition and community engagement.
Registration for the event is priced at $50 per person or $400 for a team of eight, which includes a hearty continental breakfast. All proceeds from the breakfast will contribute directly to the Victoria Literacy Connection, which plays a crucial role in enhancing reading, writing, and learning skills for individuals of all ages.
The Victoria Literacy Connection has made a significant impact over the years, supporting thousands of children and youth who required assistance with literacy in the early stages of their education. The organization aims to transform lives by fostering higher productivity, education, and overall happiness through its essential programs.
To participate, teams and individuals must complete their registrations by November 7, 2023, via the Victoria Literacy Connection’s website, victorialiteracyconnection.ca. The community is encouraged to join in this engaging event that celebrates education while supporting a worthy cause.
