Andrew Evans has been appointed as the new president of Summit Pacific College (SPC) in Abbotsford, British Columbia. The announcement was made on November 20, 2023, with Evans set to officially take on the role in the summer of 2024. He succeeds Dave Demchuk, who has led the institution since 2007.

Evans has been a part of the SPC community since 2010, serving as the director of the youth ministry program. His experience in pastoral ministry extends over a decade, providing him with a solid foundation for his new leadership role. He holds an undergraduate degree from SPC, which was formerly known as Western Pentecostal Bible College, and has completed advanced studies at Trinity Western University and Canadian Pentecostal Seminary. In 2016, he earned his doctorate of ministry from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, focusing on emerging generations.

Search for Leadership

The search for Demchuk’s successor was described as extensive by the college. Hundreds of individuals were consulted to develop the job profile, and a variety of candidates were interviewed before the final decision was made.

Debbie Tonn, a member of SPC’s board of governors, emphasized the thoroughness of the process. She stated, “Throughout this process, we engaged with strong candidates – each bringing meaningful experience, character, and a heart for ministry. With much prayer, discernment, and the thoughtful input of our community, the committee unanimously recognized Andrew Evans as the leader who carries both a deep love for Summit and a proven commitment to Christ-centred leadership.”

Evans has built a strong rapport with alumni, partners, and especially the student body during his time at the college, gaining their trust and respect.

Historical Context of SPC

Founded in the fall of 1941 as the British Columbia Bible Institute in Victoria, SPC moved to North Vancouver in 1951 and was renamed Western Pentecostal Bible College in 1961. The college established its current campus at 35235 Straiton Rd. in Abbotsford in 1974.
