Sault’s Bourdages Family Welcomes 24th Child in 1925

The Bourdages family of Sault Ste. Marie has welcomed its 24th child, marking a significant milestone in local history. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bourdages, residents at 535 Northland Rd, celebrated the arrival of their newest family member, further expanding a household already notable for its size.
Mr. Bourdages, an employee at Lyons Fuel & Supply Company, gained recognition two years prior when he was awarded for having the largest family during the Community Night parade. As part of his prize, he received 20 pounds of butter, a testament to his family’s prominence in the community. Currently, fifteen of the couple’s children are alive and reside at home, while a son, Joseph, tragically lost his life during the Great War.
Community Developments in Sault Ste. Marie
In addition to the family’s joyful news, Sault Ste. Marie is experiencing several notable events. The construction on the Bellevue-Searchmont road nears completion, with a horse-drawn vehicle being the only mode of transportation thus far traversing the route. As the road opens, it is anticipated that local traffic will increase significantly.
Local culture is also thriving, as seen in various community activities. The Sault Ste. Marie Public Library recently hosted a Harry Potter-themed party, attracting numerous participants including Scott Martin and Laura Sparrow. Meanwhile, the Pull-Chain Theatre is gearing up for a production of The Crucible, featuring a cast that includes John Hawke, Annette Aitken, Christine Ward, Nancy Mah, and Chris Horsepool.
Reflections on the Past
On this date in history, October 23, also marks the retirement of Jacques Plante, a legendary goaltender in hockey. His professional career spanned 24 years, with his final team being the Edmonton Oilers of the World Hockey Association.
As the community reflects on its rich history and ongoing developments, the Bourdages family’s latest addition serves as a reminder of the ties that bind families and communities together in Sault Ste. Marie.
