Sault Ste. Marie YMCA Invites Applicants for Board Positions
The Sault Ste. Marie YMCA is actively seeking new board members to help shape its future growth and community impact. With a legacy of serving the community for over 125 years, the YMCA offers a range of programs focused on health, fitness, aquatics, licensed childcare, afterschool initiatives, and summer day camps.
In a bid to enhance its governance, the YMCA is inviting a diverse group of applicants to fill several upcoming openings on its Board of Directors. This volunteer position requires a commitment of approximately 4-6 hours per month, with board terms lasting three years and an option for renewal.
Role and Responsibilities of the Board
Directors will be appointed at the YMCA of Sault Ste. Marie’s Annual General Meeting in January 2026. The primary role of the Board of Directors is to provide strategic direction and leadership on behalf of the community. Board members will establish governance and risk management strategies to ensure the organization meets its strategic objectives, safeguards its assets, and promotes the YMCA’s mission.
Key responsibilities include participating in monthly board meetings, which last approximately one hour, and serving on at least one board committee. Directors are also encouraged to attend YMCA events to foster community engagement.
The YMCA’s Board of Directors has identified several key priorities for the next two to three years, focusing on sustainable growth and enhancing the quality of programs offered to the community. The organization seeks individuals with expertise in areas such as finance, community service, marketing, and governance to strengthen its leadership team.
Application Process and Deadline
Those interested in applying are encouraged to complete the application form available on the YMCA’s website at ssmymca.ca. For further inquiries, contact Chris Graham, Board Co-Chair, at [email protected]. The deadline for submissions is October 24, 2025, by 17:00.
The YMCA is committed to building a Board that reflects the diverse communities it serves. Individuals requiring accommodation during the selection process are encouraged to inform the organization in advance to arrange appropriate support. All volunteer roles at the YMCA are contingent upon the successful completion of a Criminal Background Check.
The YMCA of Sault Ste. Marie remains dedicated to its mission of community wellness and looks forward to welcoming new members to its Board of Directors, who will play a crucial role in guiding the organization’s future.
