Richmond Unveils Veterans Crosswalk to Honor Local Heroes

A new crosswalk dedicated to honoring veterans was unveiled on No. 3 Road in Richmond over the weekend. The crosswalk, adorned with the phrase “Lest we forget” and featuring two maple leaves, is situated near the cenotaph and Richmond City Hall, close to Anderson Road. The initiative reflects the city’s commitment to commemorating those who have served in the military.
The City of Richmond organized the painting of the crosswalk at a cost of $20,000. The design was developed in collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 291. This crosswalk will serve as a prominent reminder of the community’s respect for its veterans, particularly as it is located at the site of the annual Remembrance Day ceremonies.
Maintenance and Future Plans
Due to the expected wear and tear from traffic, the maintenance of the crosswalk is projected to cost approximately $3,000 annually. This ongoing investment aims to ensure that the tribute remains visible and well-maintained for years to come.
An official unveiling ceremony for the crosswalk is scheduled for September 18, 2023. This event will further engage the community and provide an opportunity for residents to reflect on the sacrifices made by veterans. The crosswalk stands as a symbol of gratitude and remembrance, fostering a sense of unity within Richmond.
As the city continues to honor its heroes, this crosswalk serves as a lasting tribute, reminding all who pass by of the courage and dedication exhibited by those who have served in the armed forces.
