The hospitality manager of Maverick Estate Winery in Oliver, British Columbia, has gained province-wide recognition by being nominated for a prestigious leadership award. Janik Livera is one of three finalists in the leadership category for the BC Food and Beverage 2025 Rise Awards, an annual event that celebrates outstanding contributions within the food and beverage sector across the province.

Livera faces competition from Jasmine Byrne, representing Big Mountain Food in Vancouver, and Dionne Laslo-Baker from DeeBee’s Organic in Victoria. The recognition highlights Livera’s exceptional management skills, particularly in staff training, which have helped cultivate a culture of excellence and inclusivity at the winery. According to BC Food and Beverage, this approach has supported the winery’s impressive growth, achieving nearly $1 million in annual direct-to-consumer revenue.

In addition to his managerial role, Livera also teaches at Okanagan College, where he collaborates on programs designed to equip students for careers in the beverage industry. His dual commitment to both education and business demonstrates his dedication to fostering new talent in a growing field.

The BC Food and Beverage Rise Awards honor not only individual leaders but also highlight businesses and entrepreneurs that make significant contributions to the industry. Other categories include sustainability, social impact, innovation, and Women Entrepreneur of the Year. This year’s public voting will occur from September 9 to 23, 2025, with the awards ceremony scheduled for November 2025.
