The McHenry County GOP PAC will host a gathering on September 26, 2023, to commemorate the legacy of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was tragically killed on September 10, 2023. The event, titled “A Call to New Life in Christ,” aims to bring together community members to reflect on Kirk’s beliefs and contributions while encouraging spiritual renewal.

Scheduled to take place from 17:00 to 19:00 at Avante Banquets in Fox River Grove, Illinois, the gathering invites attendees to engage in prayer and celebration, regardless of their current faith journey. According to a news release from the PAC, the event is designed for those “seeking, returning, or ready to publicly declare your faith,” emphasizing community support throughout this process.

Kirk’s death, which drew national attention, occurred while he was speaking at Utah Valley University. His memorial service on September 21 was attended by over 800 people, including notable speakers who highlighted his commitment to faith and the conservative movement. Karen Tirio, chairwoman of the PAC, described Kirk as “more than a leader – he was a spark that ignited a movement.”

The PAC’s release quoted a spokesperson stating, “Charlie was a man of undeniable faith. We believe his legacy calls us to action – to spark revival and open the door for others to experience the same saving grace.” This sentiment highlights the ongoing impact Kirk has had on his supporters and the community.

As part of the evening’s program, Pastor Scott Barrettsmith, who delivered a heartfelt message at Kirk’s memorial, is set to speak again, echoing themes of hope and renewal. The PAC anticipates that Barrettsmith’s message will resonate strongly with attendees, reinforcing the purpose of the gathering.

In addition to the prayer event, the PAC will transition to a “Red Wave Petition and Rally” at the same venue, where Republican candidates will be present to meet constituents, sign nominating petitions, and discuss their platforms. This dual-purpose event aims to merge spiritual reflection with political engagement.

The gathering holds particular significance as it coincides with what would have been Kirk’s 32nd birthday. The U.S. House and Senate recently passed resolutions designating this day as a “National Day of Remembrance” for him, underscoring his influence in the political landscape.

Since Kirk’s passing, public discussions about his legacy have sparked controversy in local educational institutions. In Algonquin-based District 300, former board president Nancy Zettler was removed from her position following a comment made after Kirk’s death, although she was not formally censured. Similarly, in Cristal Lake District 47, a board member faced scrutiny for her social media posts regarding Kirk but was not censured.

The McHenry County GOP PAC aims to continue honoring Kirk’s values and beliefs through events like this, fostering a community that aligns with his vision for conservative activism and spiritual growth. Those interested in attending can reserve a seat through the PAC’s website, mcgopac.com.
