Logan Ferland Wins Prestigious Jake Gaudaur Veterans’ Award
Logan Ferland, a standout player for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, received the esteemed Jake Gaudaur Veterans’ Award during the Canadian Football League (CFL) Awards on March 15, 2024. This annual accolade recognizes a Canadian player who exemplifies the values of veterans including strength, perseverance, and community contribution.
Ferland expressed his gratitude for the honor, stating, “This means a lot. Football isn’t just for what’s going on the field but off the field. This really exemplifies the work we do in the offseason.” His dedication to community service is evident through his roles as an ambassador for both the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House.
Community Impact and Personal Journey
Born prematurely at just 27 weeks and weighing less than two and a half pounds, Ferland has a personal connection to his charity work. He reflected on his experiences with the hospital, noting, “Seeing the impact and really reliving all those moments as a family when we went back there and toured the hospital… it really adds to the importance of how close that is to my heart.”
Ferland’s commitment to inspiring youth is highlighted by his involvement in the Rider Reading and Win with Wellness programs, where he shares his story of resilience following the loss of his father to cancer. He has spoken to thousands of children across Saskatchewan, encouraging them to overcome challenges.
This accolade marks the fourth consecutive year a Roughrider has won the Jake Gaudaur Veterans’ Award, following previous winners such as Jorgen Hus in 2024, Brayden Lenius in 2023, and Dan Clark in 2022.
Looking Ahead: The Grey Cup Challenge
As the Saskatchewan Roughriders prepare for the ultimate showdown in the CFL, Ferland’s focus remains on winning the Grey Cup against the Montreal Alouettes. The championship game is set for March 17, 2024, with kickoff at 17:00 at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg. The team aims to secure the league’s top honor, further enhancing Ferland’s already impressive accolades, which include two CFL All-Star awards and the DeMarco–Becket Memorial Trophy as the CFL’s Best West Division Offensive Lineman.
Ferland’s journey from a premature birth to a celebrated athlete and community leader illustrates the profound impact of sports beyond the field. His recognition serves as a testament to the values of dedication and service, setting a powerful example for future generations.
