The Lethbridge Hurricanes have announced that they will induct former player Domenic Pittis and former board member Herman Elfring into the team’s Wall of Honour. This recognition will take place on October 17 at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena, celebrating their significant contributions to the organization.

Domenic Pittis, who hails from Calgary, played three seasons with the Hurricanes from 1991 to 1994. Over 203 regular-season games, he accumulated 269 points with 110 goals and 159 assists during his time in the Western Hockey League (WHL). His standout season was 1993-94, in which he recorded 127 points (58 goals and 69 assists), marking the seventh-highest total for a Hurricanes player in a single season.

Pittis ranks among the top players in Hurricanes history, standing 12th in goals scored, 10th in assists, and 10th in overall points. He also boasts a points-per-game average of 1.325, placing him 16th all-time. His accolades include being named the Hurricanes’ Three Star Award winner for two consecutive seasons and the team’s Most Valuable Player in 1993-94. In addition, he earned a spot on the WHL Second Team All-Star roster in 1994.

After his junior career, Pittis played 84 games in the NHL with teams such as the Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres, Edmonton Oilers, and Nashville Predators. He represented Canada in seven Spengler Cup tournaments and was later inducted into the Swiss Hockey Hall of Fame. Since retiring in 2013, Pittis has taken on coaching roles, including positions with the Calgary Flames and the AHL’s Stockton Heat. He currently serves as the head coach of the Saint Mary’s Prep team in the US Hockey League.

Herman Elfring will be honored in the Builders Category for his extensive service to the Hurricanes. He dedicated 23 years to the team’s board, where he held several key roles, including governor and president. Elfring retired following the 2016-17 season, having been president from 1995 to 1999. Under his leadership, the Hurricanes secured their first WHL Championship in 1997, advancing to the Memorial Cup Final.

His contributions were recognized in 2017 when he received the WHL’s Distinguished Service Award. Elfring’s impact on the organization reflects his commitment to the growth and success of the Hurricanes, making him a deserving inductee into the Wall of Honour.

The induction ceremony on October 17 promises to be a momentous occasion for both Pittis and Elfring, honoring their legacies within the Lethbridge Hurricanes’ history.
