A couple has successfully transformed their 125-year-old home in Riverside-Albert, New Brunswick, into a lively event space and concert venue. Stephanie and Dave Muir, who purchased the property during the pandemic, have embraced their new venture, providing a unique gathering spot for the community and visitors alike.

The Muirs relocated from Ottawa, seeking a larger property to reconnect as a family. After their children moved out, they faced the challenge of what to do with their expansive home. This led to the creation of Moonbrook Manor, an event space located on Route 114, approximately 45 minutes south of Moncton.

Dave, a seasoned musician with extensive experience in theatre and sound production, teamed up with Stephanie, who has a background in administration. Their combined expertise made it a natural progression to utilize their historic home for events. “He’s a pro behind the soundboard,” said Stephanie, highlighting Dave’s skills in managing live performances.

Since opening around ten weeks ago, Moonbrook Manor has hosted several live music events in its intimate 25-seat concert venue. The performances have primarily featured acoustic acts, with a focus on smaller ensembles to fit the setting. “Big houses like this absorb everything,” Dave noted, explaining their decision to keep performances intimate.

The atmosphere in the former dining room has received positive feedback from musicians and attendees. “It’s not so much that it’s a modern theatre or anything like that. It’s just that it’s a wonderful place to be,” Dave added. The couple has embraced the novelty of hosting concerts in their home, with Stephanie describing it as both “super fun” and “odd” to have shows in such a personal space.

The Muirs have adjusted well to their rural lifestyle, enjoying the scenic views from their ten-acre property, which overlooks the Bay of Fundy. “It’s different for sure,” Dave acknowledged, reflecting on the shift from urban to rural living. Upon their arrival, they found the house to be in reasonable condition, needing only minor updates.

Stephanie is enthusiastic about sharing their home with the community. “Being able to open up the house to our community and our neighbors and our tourists… just letting people in to see this beautiful home,” she expressed. The couple has received a warm response from local residents, many of whom have shared fond memories of the property from their childhoods. “We’ve even had people who have lived here for 50 years say, ‘Oh, I’ve never been inside the house. It’s nice to be in here,’” Dave recalled, highlighting the historical significance of their home.

As Moonbrook Manor continues to develop its identity as a boutique event space, the Muirs remain dedicated to fostering community connections through music and events. Their unique approach not only preserves the historical charm of their home but also enriches the cultural landscape of Riverside-Albert.
