Bring Non-Perishable Donations to Shane Koyczan’s Concert in Vernon

The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society (VDPACS) is hosting a special event on September 24, 2025, featuring acclaimed poet and spoken word artist Shane Koyczan. Attendees are encouraged to support the local community by bringing non-perishable food items for donation to the local food bank. The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Vernon, British Columbia, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
Volunteers from RBC will be on hand to collect donations in the Okanagan Spirits Foyer as part of their participation in the Benevity Causes program. This initiative allows employees to engage in volunteer opportunities and match their charitable donations. All food collected during this event will be delivered to the food bank the following morning, ensuring timely support for those in need.
In a statement, Jim Harding, executive director of VDPACS, expressed gratitude for RBC’s involvement, stating, “VDPAC was successful and is truly grateful for RBC’s support and partnering in this food security initiative.” This partnership will extend to additional performances throughout the 2025-26 SPOTLIGHT and Signature Concerts season, where food bank donations will continue to be accepted.
Shane Koyczan, known for his powerful spoken word performances, gained international fame after his moving presentation at the 2010 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies in Vancouver. His work has captivated audiences worldwide, earning him numerous awards and accolades.
The collaboration between VDPACS and RBC underscores a commitment to community welfare, linking the arts with social responsibility. Event-goers can enjoy a night of exceptional spoken word while also contributing to a vital cause, highlighting the powerful intersection of culture and community service.
