Baker Lake Celebrates Vibrant Festival by the Lake 2025

The annual Festival by the Lake in Baker Lake was a resounding success from August 22 to August 24, 2025, attracting large crowds and creating an atmosphere filled with joy. This year’s festival is being praised as one of the best in the community’s history, showcasing a remarkable lineup of performers that left attendees thoroughly entertained.
Community wellness coordinator Karen Yip expressed her satisfaction with the festivities, highlighting the special recognition of the Grade 12 graduates from Jonah Amitnaaq Secondary School. The event featured a diverse array of entertainers, including Aavsia, Agaaqtoq, and the Angotitok Band, alongside captivating performances by Mr. Circus, Rosalie Pissuk, Rosalie (Glitterbug) Lazar, and Jacob Okatsiak.
The festival’s attractions extended beyond music, encompassing a variety of activities designed to engage attendees of all ages. Participants enjoyed bouncy slides, obstacle courses, and carnival games, with opportunities to win prizes. The culinary offerings included a lunch provided by Agnico Eagle Mines, a community feast, barbecue, and even Beefaroni.
Yip noted that the festival also featured face painting, balloon twisting, a jigging contest, drum dancing, throat singing, and two parades, culminating in a long and festive end-of-festival parade.
“The hamlet would like to thank our sponsors and individuals who helped make this event possible,” Karen Yip stated. “Our appreciation goes out to AEM, Calm Air, Nunamiut Lodge, the Department of Justice, Arctic Fuel Services, the Junior Canadian Rangers, Canadian North, Northern 120, TSA — Music for the Future, the grad committee, Mayor James Taipana, Jimmy Qaqqaq, and many others for their generous contributions.”
Reflecting on the festival’s success, Yip remarked, “We’ve had so many good festivals over the years, but after a little thought, this Festival by the Lake was one of the best. It was a fun weekend.” The community’s enthusiasm and engagement were evident, making this year’s celebration a memorable occasion for all involved.
With its vibrant atmosphere and community spirit, the 2025 Festival by the Lake not only celebrated local talent but also fostered a sense of unity among residents and visitors alike. The event stands as a testament to the community’s dedication to celebrating its culture and achievements.
