The Tiny Teeth Clinic will return to Nampa on September 24, 2023, providing free dental workshops aimed at educating children about oral health. Hosted by the Nampa/Northern Sunrise County Family and Community Support Services (FCSS), the event will begin at 10 a.m. at the FCSS office, located in the Nampa Municipal Library Building.

The workshop focuses on the importance of maintaining a healthy smile and offers practical dental hygiene and nutrition tips for both children and their parents. According to Amber Houle, director of FCSS, “The program provides parents and guardians and their children with dental hygiene tips along with basic nutrition tips.”

Fluoride Varnish Clinics Enhance Dental Care Access

The Tiny Teeth initiative includes a free fluoride varnish clinic, which aims to protect children’s teeth from decay. This service is facilitated by a dental health professional from Alberta Health Services. Research indicates that fluoride varnish plays a crucial role in preventing cavities and slowing the progression of existing decay. The Alberta Health Services website recommends that children receive four fluoride varnish treatments every six months for optimal protection.

“Offering Tiny Teeth in Nampa makes it more accessible for families residing in Northern Sunrise County and the village of Nampa to access the program for their small children,” Houle explained. The program is available to preschool-aged children starting from age one, with the stipulation that parents or guardians must be present throughout the appointment.

Pre-Registration Required for Participation

Interested families are encouraged to pre-register to secure their spot. Those wishing to participate can contact the FCSS office at (780) 322-3954 to book an appointment. The clinic will remain open until 4:30 p.m., depending on the level of interest from the community. Importantly, there is no charge for participation, making it a valuable opportunity for families to prioritize their children’s dental health.

The Tiny Teeth Clinic represents a community effort to ensure that children have access to essential dental care resources. With a focus on education and preventive measures, the initiative not only addresses immediate dental needs but also fosters long-term oral health awareness among young families in the region.
