The London Children’s Hospital marked Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with a special handprint ceremony aimed at raising funds for paediatric cancer initiatives. In partnership with Hyundai’s program, Hope on Wheels, young cancer patients participated in the event by dipping their hands in paint and leaving their colorful imprints on two Hyundai SUVs.

Hyundai’s commitment to paediatric cancer support was evident through significant financial contributions. Hyundai Canada donated $100,000, while local dealer Finch Hyundai added an extra $40,000 to the cause. These funds are intended to enhance resources and support for children battling cancer, underscoring the importance of community involvement in such initiatives.

Celebrating Community and Care

The ceremony not only provided a platform for fundraising but also celebrated the dedication of oncology healthcare providers at the hospital. Dr. Alexandra Zorzi, Division Chair of Paediatric Hematology Oncology, emphasized the significance of recognizing the hard work of medical teams who care for these young patients. “I think we need to applaud them for a great celebratory day, but recognizing there’s a lot of hard days in between,” she stated.

Dr. Zorzi expressed gratitude to everyone involved in paediatric oncology, highlighting their essential role in supporting children and families during challenging times. Events like these foster community spirit and raise awareness about the ongoing battle against childhood cancer.

The handprint ceremony serves as a reminder of both the struggles faced by young patients and the collective effort required to combat this disease. With the support of organizations like Hyundai and local community members, the London Children’s Hospital continues to strive for improved outcomes and resources for children diagnosed with cancer.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a critical time for raising awareness and funds to support research and treatment for paediatric cancers. Events like this not only contribute financially but also help to create a strong support network for families affected by these illnesses.
