Yorkville Public Library Unveils December Youth Programs for Families
The Yorkville Public Library has announced an exciting lineup of youth programs for December, aiming to engage children and families during the winter break. From interactive storytimes to hands-on activities, the library offers a diverse range of events designed to inspire creativity and learning.
Interactive Activities and Educational Programs
One of the highlights this month is the **Escape Room Adventure**, where families can participate in a thrilling challenge to unlock boxes within 30 minutes. Interested families can contact the Youth Service Department at 630-553-4354 ext 108 to schedule an appointment.
For those interested in technology, a **3D Printing** tutorial led by **Leah English** will be available virtually. This session will guide participants through using **Tinkercad**, an intuitive 3D CAD design tool, allowing them to create objects for printing on the library’s 3D printer. The cost for 3D prints is set at $0.20 per gram, and submissions can be sent to [email protected].
Every Friday at 10:30 a.m., the library will host a **Drop-In Story Time** in the children’s area, featuring special readings by volunteers from the **Friends of the Library**. This event provides a relaxed environment for children to enjoy stories and socialize.
Challenges and Crafting Opportunities
Kicking off on **December 1**, the **Winter Read Challenge** invites children to track their reading progress. Participants can earn a free set of mythical creature playing cards and additional cards for every 120 minutes read. The more they read, the more creatures they can collect.
From **December 1-6**, children can join in creating **Window Art** to enhance the library’s festive atmosphere. Registration is required for this event, which allows participants to choose their preferred day and time.
The library will also host a **Mommy and Me Yoga** session on **December 2** and **16** at 10:30 a.m., where caregivers and their little ones can explore yoga through engaging stories and playful activities.
For budding scientists, the **4-H Science Explorers** program on **December 2** will delve into physics, particularly Newton’s First Law of Motion. Two sessions will be available: one for ages 6-8 at 4:30 p.m. and another for ages 9-12 at 5:00 p.m.
On **December 3**, the library will facilitate a **Teen Gingerbread Houses** workshop at 4:00 p.m., where participants can decorate their own gingerbread creations. Registration is required, and attendees are encouraged to bring a container for transport.
The library also offers a **Spanish Storytime** on **December 4** at 5:30 p.m., led by a student from the **Yorkville High School National Spanish Honor Society**, along with a **Book Club** for grades 1-2 on **December 6** and **20** at 9:30 a.m.
Families can look forward to festive activities such as the **Santa at the Library** event on **December 13** at 9:15 a.m. and the **Polar Express** storytime that same day at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.. Participants will enjoy cookies and milk while listening to the beloved holiday tale.
The library will close on **December 24, 25,** and **31**, but will operate regular hours on other days. Curbside service remains available for those preferring contactless options.
For further information or to register for events, families can visit the Yorkville Public Library’s website.
