Richmond Library Celebrates 4,000 Young Readers at Summer Event
More than 4,000 children participated in the Richmond Public Library’s summer reading program, culminating in a celebration scheduled for September 7, 2023. This event, held at the Brighouse branch, aims to recognize the accomplishments of young readers who engaged with literature throughout the summer.
Participants in the Summer Reading Club can collect their medals during the celebration or visit the library after September 3 for pickup. The free event will take place from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and features a variety of hands-on literacy activities and games designed to foster a love for reading. Local dignitaries, along with members of the library board, will be in attendance to acknowledge the efforts of the children.
Kate Adams, the head of Children & Family Services at the Richmond Public Library, emphasized the importance of the B.C. Summer Reading Club. “The program encourages kids to read for fun, which helps them build confidence in their reading abilities and develop a more positive attitude toward reading,” she stated. Adams also highlighted the engagement between children and library staff throughout the summer months.
The event is designed to be accessible, with no registration required. Families and children are invited to drop in and join the festivities. The Richmond Public Library has created an environment where young readers can celebrate their achievements and continue their journey into the world of literature.
For further details about the event or the library’s programs, interested parties can visit the library’s website. The Richmond Public Library continues to play a vital role in promoting literacy and educational engagement within the community.
