Trustees from the Prince Albert Catholic School Division are set to focus on a new Strategic Plan during their upcoming School Community Council (SCC) reports for October and November. The plan, which aims to outline the division’s objectives for the years 2026 to 2030, was presented by Director of Education Lorel Trumier during the regular meeting on October 6.

Trumier emphasized the importance of gathering community feedback on the strategic plan. “We’ll be getting some feedback regarding a strategic plan for the next four years,” she stated. She expressed enthusiasm about engaging with the SCCs and discussing the educational aspirations of families within the division.

In addition to the strategic plan, Trumier highlighted a new provincial initiative aimed at enhancing school facilities. The School Playground Equipment Grant program, announced in September, is now accepting applications. This program will provide funding for the development of safe and accessible playgrounds on school-operated properties across Saskatchewan. Eligible projects can receive up to $50,000 in matching funds, which can be used for new playgrounds or to upgrade existing equipment.

“The other piece is definitely encouraging them to see the new program that is coming from the government of Saskatchewan regarding playground grant opportunity,” Trumier remarked. The application period for this grant runs from September 9, 2025, to February 25, 2026, and will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis in partnership with the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA). This initiative is open to school community councils and parent groups associated with publicly funded schools in the province.

During a recent meeting held on October 3, trustees engaged with local MLAs, including representatives from Prince Albert Carlton and Prince Albert Northcote. Trumier described the discussions as productive, noting that the MLAs were receptive to the division’s successes and challenges. “They were present, they were listening, and they’ve indicated they would like to meet with us again,” she added.

Trumier expressed optimism about future meetings, particularly highlighting interest from MLA Alana Ross in continuing the dialogue. “We are very happy about the fact that he wants to meet again, and we’ll meet with the MLAs to discuss those matters that are important to us locally,” she said.

The Prince Albert Catholic School Division is committed to ensuring that the educational needs and aspirations of the community are reflected in its strategic initiatives. As the division prepares to implement its four-year strategy, it aims to foster collaboration with local stakeholders to enhance the educational landscape for its students.
