Plano Library Offers Exciting Programs for September 2023
The Plano Library is set to host a variety of engaging programs throughout September 2023, catering to both adults and children. These events are designed to foster creativity, learning, and community connection.
Adult Programs to Inspire Creativity
The library invites adults and high school students to participate in multiple writer-focused gatherings. The Writers’ Group will meet on August 28 and September 11 from 18:30 to 20:00. Participants can join either in person or via Zoom to share their works and discuss writing techniques. No prior registration is necessary, and attendees can use the Zoom meeting ID: 988 2555 0591 with the passcode 048559.
For those seeking assistance with technology, the Technology Help Desk will be available on September 2 with expert Steve Goodwin from 10:30 to 11:30 and on September 20 with Joshua Carlson from 12:00 to 14:00. This free drop-in service allows individuals to ask questions and receive guidance on their devices. Attendees are encouraged to bring their devices for optimal support.
In addition, the library offers a unique opportunity to engage in community service through the New Life for Old Bags event on September 13 from 10:30 to 12:00. Participants will work together to transform plastic shopping bags into sleeping mats for those experiencing homelessness. For more information, contact Ceil Carey at [email protected] or call 708-846-1704.
Another highlight of the month is the Card Making Class, scheduled for September 16 from 18:30 to 20:00. Participants will create five handmade birthday cards under the guidance of Jennifer Boring, with all materials provided for a fee of $5.
The library will also host a Book Club on September 17 from 15:30 to 16:30, discussing “The Lie Maker” by Linwood Barclay. The following month’s read will be “The Girl on the Train” by Rachel Hawkins. New members are always welcome, and books can be picked up at the Checkout Desk.
Children’s Programs Encourage Exploration and Creativity
The Plano Library offers several exciting programs aimed at children. Pizza & Pages for grades 4 to 6 will take place on September 9 at two different times, allowing participants to discuss a pre-selected book while enjoying pizza. Registration is required for this event, and interested individuals should call 630-552-2025 to secure a spot.
On September 11, independent children aged 6-10 can participate in the Create Art with Petite Palette program from 16:30 to 17:30, where they will create an acrylic painting on canvas. A similar session for ages 10-18 will follow from 18:30 to 19:40. Each session requires registration and a $5 fee.
Another innovative program, Mini Maker Bots with SciTech, is set for September 15. This hands-on experience for ages 6-12 will allow participants to explore basic electronics and build a mini vibrating robot. Registration is required, and participants are encouraged to call 630-552-2025 to sign up.
The library’s Knit and Crochet Group meets every Monday from 16:00 to 18:00 and offers both in-person and Zoom options. Led by Karen Perez, this group welcomes crafters of all ages, with limited supplies provided. No registration is needed for this ongoing program.
As September unfolds, the Plano Library continues to be a hub of community activity, offering enriching programs that cater to a wide range of interests and age groups. Whether you are looking to improve your writing skills, engage in community service, or explore creative arts, there is something for everyone at the library this month.
