Northern Illinois CPR & First Aid has made a significant contribution to Highland Elementary School, providing funds for new playground equipment aimed at enhancing students’ outdoor play experience. The announcement was made on October 14, 2023, with the donation set to enrich recess activities and promote physical engagement among students.

The financial support will enable Highland Elementary to acquire a diverse range of playground supplies. This includes sports balls, cornhole boards, new soccer goals, and various materials designed to foster cooperative games and active play. Such additions are expected to create an engaging environment that encourages creativity and collaboration among students during their recess time.

“While our primary focus is on safety, we also understand the critical role that play has in a child’s development,” stated Zach Oltmanns, owner of Northern Illinois CPR & First Aid. He expressed excitement about the donation, noting that it will provide students with more opportunities to be active, collaborate, and enjoy their time outdoors.

Highland Elementary’s principal, Jacque Buchanan, echoed Oltmanns’ sentiments, emphasizing the importance of recess in the school day. “We are incredibly thankful for this thoughtful donation from Northern Illinois CPR & First Aid. Having a variety of engaging equipment means every student, regardless of their interests, will find something fun to do. This gift will make a huge difference in enriching our students’ outdoor experience,” she said.

The new equipment is anticipated to alleviate congestion around fixed playground structures, offering students a wider array of activities to choose from during their outdoor breaks. Highland Elementary plans to implement the new playground equipment immediately, allowing students to enjoy the enhancements in the coming weeks.

This initiative underscores the commitment of Northern Illinois CPR & First Aid to not only prioritize safety but also to support the holistic development of children through active play. The donation stands as a testament to the positive impact community organizations can have on local schools, fostering environments where students can thrive both physically and socially.
