HUMBOLDT—Horizon School Division No. 205 has officially elected its new board of education table officers for the upcoming year. During the division’s annual organizational meeting held in March 2024, trustees selected Linda Mattock as board chair and Mark Fedak as vice-chair.

In her acceptance speech, Mattock expressed gratitude for her colleagues’ support, stating, “I’m truly grateful to my fellow trustees for their support. It is an honour to serve as board chair alongside such a dedicated group of leaders.” She emphasized the board’s commitment to advancing the success and well-being of students, families, and staff in the Horizon School Division.

Experienced Leadership Takes the Helm

Linda Mattock, a trustee since 2016, represents Subdivision 2, which includes schools in Annaheim, Humboldt, Lake Lenore, Middle Lake, and St. Brieux. Her long-standing dedication to the educational community positions her well to lead the board.

Mark Fedak, also a trustee since 2016, has been elected as vice-chair. He represents Subdivision 4, covering schools in Drake, Englefeld, Lanigan, Muenster, and Watson. Fedak acknowledged the trust placed in him by his peers, stating, “I appreciate the trust the board has placed in me. I’m looking forward to continuing our work to support safe, caring learning environments and positive outcomes for every student in Horizon.”

The board also extended its gratitude to outgoing chair Garth Anderson for his leadership over the past year. His contributions have been vital in navigating the challenges faced by the division during his tenure.

Governance and Organizational Structure

Horizon’s Board of Education comprises 14 publicly elected trustees, each representing one of the 14 subdivisions within the division. The annual organizational meeting is conducted in accordance with The Education Act, 1995. This meeting not only facilitates the election of table officers but also addresses important governance matters such as indemnity rates and incidental expenses.

As the new leadership steps into their roles, they face the ongoing challenge of ensuring quality education and support for all students within the Horizon School Division. The board’s commitment to fostering a positive educational environment remains a top priority, aimed at enhancing learning outcomes across the region.
