The Grundy Area Vocational Center (GAVC) has announced the launch of a new aviation program in collaboration with the City of Morris, Morris Municipal Airport, and D14 Aviation. This initiative, revealed on March 15, 2024, aims to provide high school students with comprehensive training in various aspects of aviation, including aeronautics, aviation maintenance, and flight science.

The program will equip students with essential skills and knowledge relevant to the aerospace industry, a field that continues to experience significant demand. “Our goal has always been to give students a competitive edge in today’s workforce,” stated Lance Copes, Director of the Grundy Area Vocational Center. He emphasized that the partnership will provide students with direct exposure to aviation careers within their community.

Hands-On Experience in an Aviation Environment

Through this collaboration, students will engage in real-world learning experiences at the Morris Municipal Airport. They will have opportunities to interact with aviation professionals, observe airport operations, and participate in hands-on training sessions. This practical experience could lead to certifications and further educational opportunities after high school.

“I’m proud to support this initiative that not only invests in the future of our students but also aligns with the continued growth and development of Morris Municipal Airport and the regional economy,” remarked Chris Brown, Mayor of Morris. This sentiment underscores the significance of the program not just for students, but for the local economy as well.

The GAVC is set to release additional information regarding program enrollment, specific curriculum details, and upcoming informational sessions in the coming months. Interested individuals can visit the official website at www.gavc-il.org or check the Grundy Area Vocational Center’s Facebook page for updates.

In a world where skilled labor in aviation is increasingly vital, the GAVC’s new program represents a proactive approach to preparing students for lucrative careers in the aerospace field. This collaboration is a promising step towards fostering a new generation of aviation professionals.
