Families Invited to Free Confidence-Building Program at Library

Families with children aged 6 to 11 can participate in a free program aimed at enhancing self-confidence and reducing negative thoughts this October at the Graves-Hume Public Library in Mendota. Led by Family Peer Specialist Tricia Lockwood, the five-week course will focus on building inner strengths for both children and their caregivers.
The sessions are scheduled for Thursdays from 18:00 to 19:00 on October 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. Participants will gather at the library, located at 1401 W. Main St., to engage in interactive activities designed to foster resilience and positive thinking.
Attendance does not require a library card, though registration is mandatory. Interested families can sign up by calling 815-538-5142. Additional information is available through the library’s Facebook page or by visiting the library in person to collect a newsletter.
This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of mental health and emotional well-being for children. By providing a supportive environment, the program aims to equip families with practical tools to navigate challenges and promote positive mental health.
With community engagement at its core, this program not only targets individual growth but also strengthens family bonds. As families participate together, they can share experiences and develop strategies that will benefit their overall well-being.
The Graves-Hume Public Library continues to serve as a vital resource for the community, offering programs that address various needs and interests. This upcoming course is a testament to the library’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment for families in Mendota.
