Discover Sycamore’s Good Tymes Picnics at Local History Lecture

The DeKalb County History Center is set to spotlight the beloved Good Tymes picnics in an informative lecture on September 4, 2023. This event, part of the Brown Bag Lunch and Local Lore series, will take place at noon at the history center located at 1730 N. Main St., Sycamore.
Participants will have the opportunity to view a video that showcases photographs and interviews featuring both picnic attendees and committee members involved in the events. Following the video, attendees will be encouraged to ask questions, share their own stories, and explore picnic memorabilia.
The Good Tymes picnics were a cherished tradition in DeKalb County, running from the 1970s through the 1980s. These gatherings included an annual T-shirt, live music, and a variety of food options, creating a vibrant community atmosphere that many still fondly remember.
Engaging Community History
The “Remembering the Good Tymes: A Decade of Picnics” program is a collaborative effort between the DeKalb County History Museum and the Ellwood House Museum. This lecture series, which is free to the public, is funded in part by the Mary E. Stevens Concert and Lecture Fund, reflecting a commitment to preserving and sharing local history with the community.
Those interested in attending are encouraged to bring their own lunch, as the series is designed to foster a relaxed and engaging environment for sharing local lore. For further details or inquiries, individuals can visit the history center’s website at dekalbcountyhistory.org or contact them directly at 815-895-5762.
By highlighting the significance of the Good Tymes picnics, this event aims to reconnect the community with its past, celebrating shared memories and stories that have shaped the cultural fabric of Sycamore and the surrounding regions.
