Brandon University will be at the forefront of community engagement this week, featuring several key events aimed at fostering awareness and collaboration. The highly anticipated *Take Back the Night March* is set to begin at Princess Park on October 6, 2025, at 18:00, concluding at the Mingling Area in the Knowles-Douglas Students’ Union Centre. This event is designed to raise awareness about violence against women and promote community solidarity.

Additionally, the university will host the opening event for the art exhibition “Shift/Work: Portraits of Precarity” at 19:00 in the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art. The exhibition, which features layered paintings, three-dimensional elements, sound collages, and drawings, delves into the experiences of individuals facing precarious employment. Artist Lisa Wood, alongside research assistants Renata Truelove, Michael Vachon, and Dhairya Vaidya, will guide attendees through the exhibit at the start of the event.

Upcoming Lectures and Athletic Events

On October 7, 2025, at 14:30, the Science Seminar Series will feature a lecture by Masoud Goharrokhi from the University of Manitoba. The discussion will focus on the historical and ecological significance of Netley Marsh and its relation to Lake Winnipeg. This talk will take place in Room 4-47 of the Brodie building, with an option for online attendance. Interested participants can obtain further details by emailing [email protected].

Meanwhile, the Bobcats men’s volleyball team is making headlines as they represent Canada at the NORCECA Final Six championship in Puerto Rico. This prestigious tournament commenced on October 6 and will run until October 8, showcasing top teams from across the region. The Bobcats earned their spot at this championship by winning the U SPORTS national championship earlier this spring.

The weekend will also see the Brandon University soccer teams hosting the Université de Saint-Boniface at Cougars Field on October 8. The women’s match is scheduled to start at 13:00, followed by the men’s game at 15:15.

Brandon University will observe a closure on October 13 in recognition of Thanksgiving, though the Healthy Living Centre will remain open from 11:00 to 19:00 for community members.
