On November 10, 2025, the TMX Group hosted a market opening celebration in Toronto, Ontario, in conjunction with the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) initiative, “Ring the Bell for Climate.” This event marked the lead-up to the inaugural Canada Climate Week Xchange (CCWX), set to run from November 24 to 30, 2025.

The CCWX initiative, founded by the Toronto Stock Exchange, aims to foster collaboration on climate-related challenges and opportunities within Canada. Founding members include the Canada Climate Law Initiative, CPA Canada, the First Nations Financial Management Board, GLOBE, and the Responsible Investment Association.

Highlighting Sustainability in Finance

The market opening celebration was part of the broader WFE campaign, which encourages exchanges worldwide to acknowledge their role in promoting sustainability. By ringing the opening or closing bells, these exchanges highlight their commitment to climate action and their influence in directing capital towards sustainable initiatives.

Catherine Kee, Head of Media Relations at TMX Group, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating that it is essential for exchanges to support issuers through the ongoing transformation of the economy. This event serves not only to celebrate the collaboration but also to demonstrate the financial sector’s commitment to addressing climate issues.

The CCWX aims to bring together various stakeholders, including businesses, investors, and policymakers, to discuss and strategize on climate action in Canada. By fostering collaboration, the initiative seeks to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable economy.

Global Participation in Climate Initiatives

The “Ring the Bell for Climate” campaign has seen participation from exchanges across the globe, emphasizing the crucial role of financial institutions in addressing environmental challenges. Through this initiative, exchanges are encouraged to channel investment into areas that promote sustainability and climate resilience.

As the CCWX event approaches, anticipation builds around the discussions and collaborations that will take place, further establishing Canada as a leader in climate action within the finance sector.
