The Cambridge Food Bank has initiated a new program called the FoodForward campaign, inviting businesses in the Waterloo Region to participate in hands-on activities that support local food security initiatives. The campaign aims to engage corporate teams in activities such as food preparation, gardening, and community service, with funds raised directly benefiting the Food Bank’s programs.

Dianne McLeod, the Food Bank’s CEO, emphasized the initiative’s focus on immersive workshops and team-building experiences. These sessions are designed to promote food rescue, sustainable practices, and community involvement. Businesses interested in participating can sign up their staff for a variety of tasks that contribute to the Food Bank’s mission of feeding individuals in need.

“Teams will come in, they can cook, sort food, garden alongside us,” McLeod stated in an interview with 570 NewsRadio. “They’ll see the Food Bank in action, learn new skills, and gain a deeper understanding of food insecurity in our community.” This initiative not only enhances team dynamics but also fosters empathy and reduces stigma associated with food insecurity, according to McLeod.

The Food Bank aims to collaborate with 52 corporate groups through this initiative, which is projected to generate approximately $42,000 for their programs. Additionally, non-profit and community organizations are encouraged to contribute through food donations or fundraising efforts.

The FoodForward campaign has received support from the Waterloo Region Community Foundation, which provided funding through its 2024 Community Grants. This funding has been crucial for the branding, pilot, and launch of the campaign.

Businesses interested in participating in this meaningful initiative can book online to join the Food Bank in its efforts to alleviate food insecurity in the region. The initiative represents a unique opportunity for businesses to engage with their community while making a tangible difference in the lives of those who rely on food assistance.

Through collaborative action and community spirit, the FoodForward campaign aims to create a supportive network that not only addresses immediate food needs but also fosters long-term understanding and action against food insecurity in Waterloo Region.
