Tragic Collision Claims Life of 10-Year-Old in Ontario
A 10-year-old child has died following a serious collision involving an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) cruiser in eastern Ontario on March 3, 2024. The incident occurred on Highway 7, near Perth, just before 16:30 local time. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene, where a marked OPP cruiser was struck head-on by an oncoming pick-up truck.
The OPP reported that there were three occupants in the pick-up truck at the time of the collision. The child was transported to a regional trauma centre by Air Ornge, but unfortunately succumbed to injuries the following day. The identities of the child and the other individuals involved have yet to be released.
Investigation Underway
According to a media release from the OPP, the two remaining occupants of the pick-up truck are currently receiving treatment for serious injuries in hospital. The officer in the cruiser sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is also being treated.
The Lanark County OPP is conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident to contact them at 1-888-310-1122 and reference incident number E251673466.
This tragic event highlights the dangers of road traffic and the ongoing need for safety measures. As the investigation continues, the community is left mourning the loss of a young life and hoping for the swift recovery of those injured.
