Snowfall Causes Power Outages for Nearly 2,000 in BC Region
Heavy snowfall has led to power outages affecting nearly 2,000 BC Hydro customers west of Highway 99 in the Sea to Sky region of British Columbia. The outages were primarily caused by a downed power line amidst ongoing winter weather conditions in the Squamish area.
As the snowfall continues, BC Hydro crews are working diligently to restore power to impacted customers. The utility company has advised residents to stay indoors and avoid any downed power lines. The situation has been compounded by hazardous driving conditions, which have made access challenging for repair teams.
Weather Warnings and Impacts
The weather forecast indicates that the snowfall will persist throughout November 3, 2023. The Environment Canada agency has issued a snowfall warning for the region, predicting additional accumulation that may reach up to 15-20 centimeters. Residents are urged to prepare for possible further disruptions, as safety remains a priority for both individuals and crews working to restore services.
Local officials have emphasized the importance of caution during this period. “We advise everyone to stay updated with the weather advisories and to take necessary precautions,” stated a spokesperson from the District of Squamish. “The safety of our community is paramount.”
Utility Response and Community Safety
BC Hydro has been proactive in managing the situation. The company has mobilized resources to ensure the quickest possible restoration of power. “Our teams are focused on safely addressing the outages as quickly as possible,” said a BC Hydro spokesperson. “We appreciate the patience of our customers during this challenging weather event.”
In addition to power restoration efforts, local emergency services are on standby to assist residents who may require support during the severe weather. The community is advised to keep emergency supplies on hand and to remain informed through official channels for updates on both the weather and power restoration efforts.
As the winter season progresses, the Sea to Sky region will likely continue to face challenging weather conditions. Residents are encouraged to stay prepared and vigilant as snowfall events can disrupt not only power supply but also transportation and daily activities.
For real-time updates on outages and safety tips, customers can visit the BC Hydro website or follow their social media channels.
