The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced a recall of select Pillsbury brand Pizza Pops due to potential contamination with E. coli O26. The recall affects specific pepperoni and bacon varieties sold in various package sizes, with best-before dates ranging from June 9 to June 14, 2026. The agency is advising consumers to discard the affected items or return them to the place of purchase.

Among the products recalled are Pizza Pops sold in 760-gram and 2.85-kilogram packages, as well as Pizza Pops Supremo Extreme pepperoni and bacon snacks available in three-kilogram boxes. The latter have best-before dates from June 10 to June 12, 2026. Additionally, Pizza Pops Frank’s RedHot pepperoni and bacon in 380-gram packages with a best-before date of June 14, 2026, is also included in the recall.

The CFIA has emphasized that the affected products may not exhibit any visible signs of spoilage, yet they pose a significant health risk. Consumers are warned that consuming food contaminated with E. coli can lead to serious illness, particularly in vulnerable populations such as children. Symptoms of an E. coli infection can include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping, and diarrhea. In severe cases, individuals may require medical intervention.

In a statement, General Mills, the parent company of Pillsbury, confirmed that this is a voluntary recall and assured the public that other Pizza Pops products remain unaffected. The company is cooperating with the CFIA to ensure consumer safety and is working to address the situation promptly.

As health officials continue to monitor the situation, consumers are encouraged to stay informed about food safety practices and to be vigilant when it comes to product recalls. The CFIA urges anyone in possession of the recalled items to take immediate action to prevent any potential health risks.
