As autumn settles in, Kendall County presents a variety of engaging events perfect for families and individuals eager to embrace the season. Upcoming Festivals and Activities
The annual Scarecrow Walk, running until October 31, invites visitors to enjoy a stroll at Riverfront Park located at 131 E. Hydraulic Ave., Yorkville. Participants can admire community-decorated scarecrows and cast their votes for favorites by scanning a QR code available in the park.
On October 2, the Oswego Cemetery Walk offers guided tours from 17:30 to 21:15 at the Oswego Township Cemetery. The event highlights the lives of early residents and pioneers. Advance registration is required, with fees set at $7 for residents and $10 for non-residents, according to the Oswegoland Park District.
Another intriguing option is the Moonlight & Mies Tours, scheduled for October 4 at 7:30 p.m.. Held at the Edith Farnsworth House Historic Site in Plano, this event allows attendees to appreciate the historic home, seasonal art, and scenic grounds under the enchanting glow of the full moon. Tickets are $40 and advance registration is required.
For those interested in a more active exploration, the Waa Kee Sha History Hike on October 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 13:00 at Waa Kee Sha Park in Oswego will delve into the park’s historical significance. This event is open to participants aged 15 and older, with costs set at $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents.
Family-Friendly Fun and Community Celebrations
The Farnsworth Fall Festival on October 12 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. promises a delightful day of art, nature, and history. Located at the Edith Farnsworth House, the festival will feature lawn games, en plein air painting, and self-guided house tours. Attendees can enjoy artisan vendors, food, and beverages, with tickets priced at $10 for adults aged 16 and older, $5 for youth, and free admission for children aged 2 and younger.
As Halloween approaches, the Halloween Egg Hunt & Costume Contest is set for October 17 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Town Square in Yorkville. This festive event invites families to join in on the fun with a community egg hunt and a costume contest.
Runners can participate in the Saw Wee Kee Fall Trail Run on October 18 at 3:00 p.m.. Taking place in Saw Wee Kee Park, this annual event challenges participants to navigate twisting trails surrounded by wildflowers. Advance registration is required, and fees apply.
The Yorkville Chamber Biz Boo Trick-or-Treat on the same day encourages families to visit participating businesses in Yorkville for treats. The Chamber’s website provides a list of locations.
Concluding the autumn festivities, the Fall Fest at the Kendall County Fairgrounds on October 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. offers an engaging auto show, vendor market, live music, and various food options. Admission is free.
Finally, the season wraps up with the Fraidycat 5K, 8K, and Meow Mile on October 26 at 9:00 a.m. in Downtown Oswego. This family-friendly run features events catering to all ages, including the Meow Mile for younger runners. Awards will be given by age group, making it a perfect opportunity for families to enjoy a day of competition and camaraderie.
