25-Year-Old Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash in Nanaimo
A tragic accident occurred early on Sunday, September 14, 2023, resulting in the death of a 25-year-old man in Nanaimo, British Columbia. The single-vehicle crash took place just before 03:00 near the intersection of Bowen Road and Pryde Avenue.
According to a press release from the Nanaimo RCMP, the driver lost control of his pickup truck while travelling northbound on Bowen Road. The vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a light pole. Emergency responders, including Nanaimo Fire Rescue and the B.C. Ambulance Service, arrived at the scene, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger, also a 25-year-old man, sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for precautionary evaluation. The B.C. Coroner Service has been notified, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The northbound lanes of Bowen Road were closed for several hours as investigators, including an RCMP collision analyst, examined the site of the crash. The vehicle was subsequently towed from the location. Authorities have indicated that speed, alcohol, and road conditions are likely contributing factors in this tragic accident.
The investigation continues as police seek to piece together the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident. Local residents are urged to exercise caution on the roads, particularly during late-night hours.
