New Streaming Releases in Canada: What to Watch This Week
As streaming services expand their offerings, Canadian audiences have a range of new movies and TV shows to explore from September 22 to September 28, 2025. This week, platforms such as Apple TV+, Crave, Disney+, Netflix, and Prime Video are set to premiere a variety of intriguing content, including thrilling dramas, engaging documentaries, and dark comedies.
Apple TV+ Offers a Gripping Spy Thriller
Starting on September 24, viewers can tune into the highly anticipated series Slow Horses on Apple TV+. This spy thriller, based on Mick Herron’s novel, features a cast led by Gary Oldman, who plays the role of a seasoned intelligence officer. The show unfolds through a series of bizarre events that the Slow Horses must investigate, revealing connections that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The series consists of six episodes, each approximately one hour long. An Apple TV+ subscription is available for $12.99 per month.
Crave Delves into the Legacy of the Montreal Canadiens
Also premiering on September 24, Crave introduces the documentary Toujours Canadiens. This French-language film examines the rich history of the Montreal Canadiens through the eyes of former players such as Stéphane Richer and Claude Lemieux. Directed by Kenny Bodanis, a journalist from Montreal, the documentary provides an intimate look at the team’s influence on Canadian hockey culture. Disney+ Presents a Unique Black Comedy
On the same day, Disney+ launches The Lowdown, a black comedy that follows a citizen journalist in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as he investigates a high-profile murder. The series, created by Sterlin Harjo, is notable for its engaging storytelling and features a talented cast, including Ethan Hawke and Ottawa’s Kaniehtiio Horn. The show consists of eight episodes, each lasting about one hour. Disney+ subscriptions start at $8.99 per month.
Netflix Unveils a Dark Thriller
Netflix will premiere Wayward on September 25. This thriller, created by Mae Martin, follows a small-town detective who suspects that a local school for troubled teens harbors sinister secrets. The series features a notable cast, including Toni Collette and Sarah Gadon, and was filmed in Toronto and Millbrook, Ontario. Netflix offers various plans, with the Standard plan priced at $18.99 per month.
Prime Video Launches a Chilling Horror Film
Finally, Prime Video will present the horror film Bring Her Back on September 26. This unsettling story follows two orphaned siblings who discover that their adoptive mother has sinister plans involving an occult ritual. The film is directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, and stars Sally Hawkins and Jonah Wren Phillips. A subscription to Prime Video is included with an Amazon Prime membership, which costs $99 per year, with an additional fee of $2.99 per month to remove ads.
