Mobile Mammography Service Set to Visit Canmore in November
Alberta Health Services (AHS) will bring its mobile mammography service to Canmore next month, offering essential breast cancer screening for women. The mobile unit will be stationed at the Canmore General Hospital on November 15, 2023, and again from November 17 to 20, 2023. This initiative aims to provide convenient access to mammograms for women aged 45 to 74, who are considered the most at-risk group for developing breast cancer.
Mammograms are X-ray examinations of the breast, crucial for detecting early signs of cancer. According to AHS, these screenings are the most effective way to identify breast cancer in its early stages, when treatment is likely to be more successful. The service is designed to improve accessibility for women who may otherwise face barriers to obtaining this vital health care.
The screening is available at no cost for eligible individuals, but appointments are mandatory. Women who wish to take advantage of this opportunity can secure their appointment by calling 1-800-667-0604. More information about the program and eligibility criteria can be found on the official website, ScreeningForLife.ca.
This mobile service reflects AHS’s commitment to enhancing public health by making preventive care more accessible. By bringing mammography services directly to communities like Canmore, AHS aims to encourage more women to participate in regular screenings, ultimately contributing to early detection and improved health outcomes for breast cancer patients.
