Dodge Revamps 2026 Durango Lineup with V6 Engine Option
Dodge has officially expanded its 2026 Durango lineup in the United States to include the 3.5L Pentastar V6 engine alongside the previously announced V8 offerings. The change comes as the GT trim of the SUV will now be available with either the V6 or a V8, marking a significant shift in Dodge’s initial plans for the model.
Earlier this year, Dodge indicated that the Durango would exclusively feature a V8 engine for the 2026 model year in the U.S. However, new information from Stellantis reveals that this is no longer the case. The addition of the V6 engine seems to be a response to increasing demand for the V8 models, as well as potential supply chain considerations linked to the Ram 1500.
The decision to reinstate the V6 option has implications for both the American and Canadian markets. In Canada, the presence of the V6 in the GT trim was always part of the offering, described as “unique to Canada” in previous communications. Now, consumers in both countries will have access to three basic trims: GT V6, GT Hemi, and SRT Hellcat.
According to Dodge, the reopening of orders for the Durango GT equipped with the Pentastar engine comes as the supply of Hemi engines increases. This move is indicative of Stellantis’s success with the 2026 Ram 1500, which has reportedly been selling at a strong pace, suggesting that the demand for the 5.7L V8 may be impacting the availability of engines for other models.
In terms of pricing, the Canadian market lists the Durango GT V6 starting at $64,190, while the GT V8 is priced at $76,990. The high-performance Hellcat version is considerably more expensive, with a starting price of $147,887. All new Durangos sold in Canada will feature all-wheel drive, enhancing their appeal in various driving conditions.
Dodge’s strategy appears to be a calculated response to consumer preferences and market demands, particularly as the automotive industry navigates ongoing supply chain challenges. The introduction of the V6 engine alongside the V8 option may provide broader appeal to a wider range of customers looking for performance and efficiency in their SUVs.
As the 2026 model year approaches, Dodge continues to adapt its offerings, ensuring that customers have access to a variety of engine choices. This flexibility may help the brand maintain its competitive edge in a rapidly evolving automotive landscape.
