Toronto Ranks 17th in Resonance Consultancy’s World’s Best Cities List
Toronto has secured its place among the world’s premier cities, ranking 17th in Resonance Consultancy’s annual “World’s Best Cities” list released this week. The Canadian city outperformed notable global metropolises, including San Francisco and Milan, highlighting its appeal as a desirable place to live. This year’s ranking reflects a slight decline from its previous position at 15th, but it remains the top-ranked Canadian city.
London, U.K., took the coveted top spot for the tenth consecutive year, followed closely by New York City, U.S., and Paris, France. The rankings consider a range of factors, including livability, lovability, and prosperity. Toronto’s score in livability is enhanced by its walkability, air quality, and public transportation system.
Factors Contributing to Toronto’s Ranking
Resonance Consultancy attributes Toronto’s high ranking to its highly educated population and the city’s dynamic evolution. The report notes, “Canada’s sensible gateway for immigration and innovation is getting a little wild.” Toronto boasts the fourth most educated population globally, contributing to its thriving economy and attracting a diverse range of immigrants.
The city’s infrastructure projects, such as the renovation of Massey Hall and the creation of Love Park with its heart-shaped pond, also played a significant role in boosting its ranking. Toronto has over 150 tower cranes currently in operation, indicating robust construction and development activity.
Resonance’s methodology combines core statistics from over 400 global cities with real-life perception data, including user-generated ratings and reviews from platforms like Instagram, Google, and TikTok. The rankings intentionally exclude Russian cities due to the ongoing conflict resulting from the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Comparison with Other Canadian Cities
Following Toronto in the rankings, Vancouver is positioned at 41st, while Montreal ranks 45th. Ottawa and Calgary follow at 73rd and 85th, respectively. This positioning underscores Toronto’s status as a leading urban center not only in Canada but also on the international stage.
The full list of the top ten cities includes:
1. London, U.K.
2. New York City, U.S.
3. Paris, France
4. Tokyo, Japan
5. Madrid, Spain
6. Singapore
7. Rome, Italy
8. Dubai, U.A.E.
9. Berlin, Germany
10. Barcelona, Spain
Toronto’s continued presence in the top 20 of the “World’s Best Cities” list reflects its ongoing growth and appeal, reinforcing its reputation as a vibrant and inclusive city for residents and newcomers alike.
