AI Receptionists Revolutionize Dental Practices Across the UK
A growing number of dental practices in the UK are adopting AI receptionists to enhance patient communication and streamline operations. Since May 2025, approximately 65 dental practices have implemented a 24/7 AI receptionist system, facilitating over 50,000 patient calls and achieving notable improvements in operational efficiency and patient satisfaction.
Data from the pilot program reveals significant benefits, including zero missed calls, a recovery of £9 million in lost revenue, and the freeing of 2,000 staff hours previously spent on call handling. The AI system has successfully resolved 96% of calls independently, with only 4% requiring escalation to human staff. Additionally, these practices have seen new patient bookings rise from 18% to 70%, with an average of 500 new patients booked monthly.
AI Technology Enhances Patient Experience
The AI receptionist initiative is a collaboration between Wildix, a provider of AI-powered business communications solutions, and RoboReception, a UK-based healthcare software company. Their joint solution aims to alleviate the pressure on dental practice staff while improving patient experiences. The system integrates Wildix’s UCaaS platform with RoboReception’s workflows designed specifically for dental practices, allowing for seamless communication and management of patient records.
Missed calls have long plagued the healthcare sector, particularly in dentistry, where over one-third of new patient inquiries go unanswered. This leads to lost revenue and delayed patient care. The AI receptionist addresses this issue by ensuring calls are answered promptly and efficiently. Practices maintain control over operational processes, determining when the AI should engage, when staff should intervene, and how records are updated.
Personal Insights from Industry Leaders
Grant McAree, co-founder of RoboReception, shared his motivation for developing the system. “We were never taught business at dental school, only how to serve patients. Yet every missed call meant a patient lost and pressure piling on our teams,” he stated. McAree emphasized the personal connection he felt to the issue, recalling moments when he was unable to answer calls while attending to patients.
He explained, “That’s why we built RoboReception—not as a plug-and-play gadget, but as a controllable system created by clinicians for clinicians. Together with Wildix, we’ve proven that AI can work hand-in-hand with staff, giving practices back control and providing patients the access they deserve.”
The system consolidates various front-desk tools into a single platform that connects with patient records, customer relationship management (CRM) systems, and scheduling software. This integration enables practices to book appointments, update records, and transfer calls in real time.
The rapid rollout of this technology was facilitated by Wildix’s open application programming interfaces (APIs) and technical support, allowing practices to implement the system within weeks—a speed described as “unheard of” in healthcare technology.
As dental practices increasingly embrace AI solutions, the potential for improved patient care and enhanced operational efficiency becomes clearer. With ongoing advancements in AI technology, the future of dental reception may be transformed, offering both practices and patients a more streamlined and effective experience.
