United Way’s Ultimate Burger Battle Raises Funds for Community Support
The United Way East Ontario has launched the **Ultimate Burger Battle**, a unique fundraiser aimed at supporting community initiatives, including youth programs and mental health services. This culinary challenge invites local restaurants to participate, with the event running from **November 1 to November 30, 2023**, across **20 restaurants** in the eastern Ontario region.
Participants can enjoy signature burgers at the listed restaurants, with **$2 from each burger sold** being donated to the United Way. Lorena Costa from United Way East Ontario emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “The Ultimate Burger Battle brings the community together through a very delicious meal.” The funds raised will significantly contribute to the organization’s efforts in building safer and more connected communities.
Costa highlighted the significance of creative fundraising methods, noting, “We need to find more creative ways to bring people together and also, at the same time, support the community and small businesses.” The participating restaurants cover a diverse area, including **Ottawa, Prescott Russell, Lanark County, and Renfrew County**.
Community Engagement and Local Business Support
The Ultimate Burger Battle not only fosters community spirit but also encourages local businesses to showcase their culinary talents. One of the participating establishments, the **Royal Oak**, is committed to giving back to the community. Jason Miller, a representative from the restaurant, shared, “It’s something the Royal Oak has been involved with over the last 45 years in our community.”
Miller explained that the event allows the restaurant to “flex the creative muscles” and contribute positively through partnerships with organizations like the United Way. He expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “It’s just such a great way to give back to the community, the community that has built us up.”
Participants in the Ultimate Burger Battle are encouraged to visit the United Way’s website to find a complete list of restaurants and details on how to vote for their favorite burger. This initiative not only highlights the culinary creativity of local chefs but also emphasizes the collective effort to support vital community services.
As the Ultimate Burger Battle unfolds, it promises to be a delicious way for residents to engage with their community while contributing to meaningful causes. The event illustrates how food can serve as a vehicle for change, uniting patrons and businesses in a common goal to enhance the lives of those in need within eastern Ontario.
