Over 300 Receive Free Christmas Turkeys Despite Freezing Weather
In Calgary, over 300 residents braved freezing temperatures on December 22, 2023, to receive free Christmas turkeys as part of an annual charity drive. Organized by local company Kulinary Records, the initiative aims to provide families in need with a proper holiday meal during the festive season.
Volunteers distributed more than 300 turkeys, along with other essential items, at the Max Bell Centre. This event marks the third consecutive year of the drive, which has gained significant traction in the community.
Farid Hamdan, one of the event organizers, expressed his satisfaction with the turnout, stating, “It just fills my heart with joy to know they are going to the right people.” The generosity of the local community was evident as many individuals came out to support their neighbors despite the harsh conditions.
The cold weather did not deter demand. Co-organizer Mike Foss noted that last year, the turkeys were distributed in approximately 20 minutes, even in colder temperatures. “So that just shows you the demand,” he remarked. This year’s event highlighted the ongoing need for support among families facing hardship during the holidays.
The turkey drive not only serves as a vital resource for those in need but also fosters a sense of community spirit in Calgary. Volunteers and participants alike expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to help others during this season of giving.
As the holiday season continues, initiatives like this remind everyone of the importance of community support and the impact it can have on individuals and families facing challenges. The success of this event reinforces the idea that, even in difficult times, together, communities can make a significant difference.
