The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Auxiliary Unit successfully held its 17th annual “Stuff a Cruiser” campaign on December 6, 2023, raising significant funds and collecting food and toys for families in need within the Pembroke and Petawawa regions. This year, the initiative garnered over $4,900 in cash donations and more than 4,100 pounds of food, along with numerous toy contributions.

To facilitate the campaign, auxiliary and frontline officers set up police cruisers at various retail locations, including Walmart, Metro, Giant Tiger, No Frills, and Hyska’s Your Independent Grocer in Petawawa. Community members were encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, toys, and cash to support local families during the holiday season.

Community Engagement and Support

The response from the community was robust, with residents stepping up to support those less fortunate. All donations collected during the campaign were distributed to local organizations dedicated to assisting families in need. Notable beneficiaries included the Kiwanis Club Toy Drive, St. Joseph’s Food Bank in Pembroke, and the Petawawa Pantry.

The OPP Auxiliary expressed gratitude to the participating businesses for their generous support, which made the collection drive possible. “Without the cooperation of these local retailers, such a successful campaign would not have been achievable,” said a representative from the Auxiliary.

Continuing a Meaningful Tradition

The “Stuff a Cruiser” initiative has become a cherished tradition in the Upper Ottawa Valley, reflecting the community’s commitment to helping those in need. This year’s contributions highlight the ongoing generosity of local residents and the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the community.

As the festive season approaches, efforts like these aim to ensure that no family goes without essential items during this time of giving. The OPP Auxiliary looks forward to continuing this tradition in the years to come, further strengthening community ties and supporting local families.
