Lake Country Seeks Community Input for New Growth Plan
Residents of Lake Country are invited to provide their feedback on the district’s Official Community Plan (OCP), a crucial document that will guide growth and development for the next 20 years. The OCP is designed to reflect the evolving priorities and needs of the community, ensuring that local voices contribute to shaping its future.
The current OCP, which covers the period from 2018 to 2038, includes strategic goals, objectives, and policies that influence decisions made by the council, staff, and the public. In light of significant changes in the community since 2018, including population growth and increased development, Lake Country has initiated a comprehensive review and update of the plan.
Key Focus Areas for the OCP Update
The review process aims to address a variety of pressing issues, such as:
– Housing affordability challenges
– Environmental hazards and climate resilience
– Evolving municipal service needs
– Economic diversification and community safety
According to a district media release, “As our community evolves so must our vision and we want your voice to be part of it.” This emphasizes the importance of community involvement in ensuring the OCP accurately reflects local needs and aspirations.
To facilitate public engagement, Lake Country has launched a Community Visioning Survey, available online until September 30, 2023. Participants will have the opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas, and will be entered into weekly draws for $50 gift cards to local businesses. Additionally, a grand prize of $100 will be awarded at the end of the survey period to one lucky participant.
Engagement Opportunities for Residents
Beyond the survey, the district is hosting two open houses for residents to engage directly with planners and share their insights. These events will take place at the municipal hall located at 10150 Bottom Wood Lake Road on:
– Wednesday, September 10, from 15:00 to 19:00
– Thursday, September 11, from 09:00 to 13:00
Residents are encouraged to attend these sessions to ask questions and discuss their vision for the future of Lake Country.
The feedback collected through the survey and open houses will play a pivotal role in shaping the revised OCP, ensuring it meets the current and future needs of the community. As Lake Country continues to grow and evolve, the insights from its residents will be instrumental in creating a sustainable and vibrant future for all.
