East Hamilton Home Dazzles with 50 Festive Inflatables
During the holiday season, a house on Dunsmure Road in east Hamilton has become a notable attraction due to its impressive display of festive decorations. This residence, which resembles a gingerbread house and features a yard filled with approximately 50 inflatable decorations, captivates both locals and visitors alike.
Kevin Greenhalgh has transformed his home over the past seven years, starting with just eight inflatables and expanding his collection significantly. He recalls that the initial decision to decorate came when he placed a few blow-ups in his yard, which has now grown into a display that lights up the neighborhood each night.
Many children take delight in the vibrant decorations, and Greenhalgh finds joy in their reactions as they pass by. “The kids have a ball coming by. They run around and take pictures and stuff like that, so it’s pretty good,” he told CBC Hamilton. His enthusiasm has also drawn support from neighbors, who contribute to the electricity costs associated with the dazzling display.
Stephen Elliott, a neighbor, appreciates the festive atmosphere that Greenhalgh’s home brings to the area. “It’s wonderful being able to see all the lights; it puts on a show,” he said. His child, Neve Elliott, noted how the decorations change regularly, adding excitement to their daily walks past the house.
Greenhalgh actively seeks out new inflatables throughout the year, often purchasing them at flea markets and yard sales. “A couple of the neighbors donated blow-ups and stuff like that,” he mentioned, welcoming community contributions to his festive setup. His collection includes popular characters such as Baby Yoda, the Grinch, and numerous Santa Clauses, alongside whimsical animals.
Setting up the decorations is a labor-intensive process. Greenhalgh typically begins in November, dedicating around 40 hours to the installation. Despite his extensive collection, he sometimes runs out of space in his front yard and has secured permission from a neighbor to display some of the larger inflatables on their driveway.
When asked how long he plans to continue this holiday tradition, Greenhalgh expressed his commitment to bringing joy to the community, stating, “as long as I can.” The festive display on Dunsmure Road has not only become a source of pride for Greenhalgh but also a cherished holiday attraction for the neighborhood, fostering a sense of community spirit during the festive season.
As Hamilton residents embrace the holiday spirit, Greenhalgh’s home stands out as a symbol of joy, creativity, and community togetherness. Would you like to share your own festive display? Contact [email protected] with photos and details of your holiday decorations.
