DeKalb Library Hosts Third Annual Day of the Dead Celebration
The DeKalb Public Library is set to celebrate the third annual Day of the Dead on November 1, inviting the community to honor this rich cultural tradition between 14:00 and 17:00 local time. Located at 309 Oak Street, the library will host a free event featuring a variety of activities designed to engage attendees of all ages.
The celebration will commence with a welcoming procession starting at El Jimador and making its way to the library. This procession serves as a tribute to those who have passed away, establishing a reflective atmosphere for participants. As the event unfolds, visitors will have the opportunity to view ofrendas, or altars, created by local residents, showcasing personal remembrances of loved ones.
In addition to the altars, the Day of the Dead Celebration will feature various crafts and performances, providing an immersive experience into the cultural significance of this day. Attendees can also share their personal reflections on what the Day of the Dead means to them at the WNIJ-HOLA booth, fostering a sense of community and connection.
Food options will be available for purchase, with offerings from Nina’s Tacos and Tako Sushi food trucks. The event will conclude with a performance by the Northern Illinois University Mariachi Band, who will take the stage for an after-hours concert starting at 17:30.
For further details, interested individuals can contact the library via email at [email protected] or by calling 815-756-9568, ext. 1701. The DeKalb Public Library encourages everyone to partake in this vibrant celebration that honors life, death, and remembrance within the community.
