Crystal Lake Central and Huntley Secure Wins in FVC Soccer
Boys soccer teams from Crystal Lake Central and Huntley triumphed in the latest round of Fox Valley Conference (FVC) matches, showcasing impressive performances on the field. Crystal Lake Central secured a narrow victory against Dundee-Crown with a score of 2-1, while Huntley edged out Crystal Lake South 1-0.
At Crystal Lake, the Tigers improved their season record to 6-3-3 overall and 2-1 within the FVC. The standout player for Crystal Lake Central was Gavin Kane, who netted one goal, while goalkeeper Chase Lemke made a significant impact by stopping 11 shots from the Chargers.
In Huntley, the Red Raiders celebrated their victory thanks to a late goal by Tyler Murray, who found the net in the 76th minute with an assist from Allen Williams. This win marked Huntley’s sixth match without a loss, bringing their record to 6-0-2 and 2-0 in the FVC. Ethan Knaus had a solid performance in goal as well, making four saves.
The match between Prairie Ridge and Hampshire ended in a stalemate, concluding at 0-0 after two overtime periods. Sam Kerley excelled as the goalkeeper for Prairie Ridge, stopping all eight shots faced, which improved their record to 7-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the FVC.
In other notable matches, Jacobs defeated Burlington Central 2-1, while McHenry secured a 1-0 win against Cary-Grove. Angel Apaez of Cary-Grove recorded 11 saves despite the loss.
The girls’ volleyball scene also saw action, with Crystal Lake Central defeating McHenry 25-21, 25-18. Freshman Jordyn Johnson was a key player, contributing 10 kills and 13 digs, helping the Tigers improve their overall record to 9-6 and 5-4 in the FVC.
Prairie Ridge also achieved a victory over Crystal Lake South, winning 25-21, 25-20. Adeline Grider led the Wolves with nine kills, while Addison Smith provided 23 assists, enhancing their season record to 13-2 and 8-1 in the FVC.
Jacobs continued their strong performance by defeating Cary-Grove 25-21, 25-16. Gianna Coletti was instrumental in the win with 15 assists and nine digs, bringing Jacobs’ record to 9-8 and 5-4 in conference play.
Boys golf teams also competed this week, with Jacobs earning a decisive victory over Dundee-Crown with a score of 153 to 190. Chase Garden emerged as the medalist with a score of 1-under-par 35. Burlington Central triumphed over Hampshire 161 to 170, led by Tyler Samaan, who also shot 1-under 35.
In girls golf, Johnsburg dominated North Boone with a score of 185 to 254, with Lauren McQuiston leading the Skyhawks with a score of 43.
Crystal Lake Central’s flag football team bounced back from a previous loss to secure a 31-14 victory against Dundee-Crown. Ryleigh Smith was a standout player, throwing three touchdowns and running in another, lifting the Tigers’ record to 5-5 overall.
As the fall sports season continues, teams from the FVC are demonstrating competitive spirit and athletic prowess, setting the stage for an exciting remainder of the season.
