Windsor Regional Hospital Appoints Kristin Kennedy as Next CEO
Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) has appointed Kristin Kennedy as its next president and CEO, with plans for her to assume the role in April 2026. Kennedy is a well-known figure in the Windsor-Essex health care community, currently serving as the president and CEO of Erie Shores Healthcare, a position she has held since 2020. Her extensive experience in various senior roles within the healthcare sector positions her uniquely to lead WRH through a transformative period.
Kennedy has a strong background in healthcare, having previously served as the chief nursing executive at Erie Shores Healthcare. She has also held several senior positions at WRH, including director of critical care and cardiology, as well as operations manager for the neurosciences program. Her career spans multiple states, where she has worked in Michigan and begun her journey as a neonatal intensive care nurse and flight nurse in Texas.
Leadership Transition and Future Plans
According to the media release from WRH, Kennedy’s leadership comes at a pivotal time as the hospital prepares for the construction of a new acute-care facility in the coming years. Ian McLeod, chair of the WRH Board, expressed confidence in Kennedy’s capabilities, noting that her experience will be invaluable during this transition.
In her statement, Kennedy highlighted her eagerness to join WRH while also ensuring a seamless transition at Erie Shores Healthcare. Current WRH President and CEO Karen Riddell will continue in her role until Kennedy officially takes over, with plans for her retirement in spring 2026.
Kennedy will remain at Erie Shores Healthcare until March 22, 2026, where she has been credited with steering the hospital through significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and a recent cyberattack. The board of Erie Shores praised her leadership during these critical periods, emphasizing her commitment to day-to-day operations and long-term strategic planning.
Looking Ahead
The decision for Kennedy to leave her current role was not an easy one. She acknowledged the strong relationships she has developed with staff and leadership at Erie Shores Healthcare. The board announced plans to appoint an interim CEO later this winter, with Kennedy committed to supporting the transition process to ensure continuity in leadership.
As Windsor Regional Hospital prepares for a new chapter under Kennedy’s leadership, her extensive background and commitment to healthcare will be crucial in navigating the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
