New Website Enhances Access to Cancer Clinical Trials in Canada
The Canadian Cancer Society, in partnership with the Quebec Clinical Research Organization, has launched a new website aimed at providing current information on cancer clinical trials for patients and healthcare providers. This platform addresses the challenges of accessing reliable and timely details about ongoing clinical trials, which can often be fragmented or outdated.
Improving Access to Information
According to Dr. Morgane Morabito, the Director of Research Programs, Impact and Outreach at the Canadian Cancer Society, the website serves as a crucial resource. “The problem we have right now is that it can be challenging sometimes to find information around clinical trials,” she stated. The platform features a robust search tool that allows users to easily find relevant information, such as the type of cancer being studied, the locations of the trials, and specific age criteria for participants.
The website aims to empower patients by providing resources that can facilitate informed discussions with their healthcare providers. “There’s a lot of information to empower patients during their conversations with healthcare providers so they can make informed decisions,” said Morabito. She emphasized the importance of these conversations, noting that participation in clinical trials may not be suitable for everyone due to the associated risks and benefits.
Accessibility and Support
The newly launched website, which is available in both English and French, is designed with accessibility in mind. It has undergone third-party testing to ensure it meets established standards, thereby facilitating better access for patients seeking information on clinical trials. “It can be a great way to get some support,” Morabito added.
In addition to the website, a dedicated hotline is available to assist users in navigating the resources. This comprehensive approach aims to improve patient access to clinical trial information and to enhance their understanding of the options available.
The collaboration between the Canadian Cancer Society and the Quebec Clinical Research Organization represents a significant step in making clinical trial information more accessible and user-friendly. As patients increasingly seek out information regarding their health care options, platforms like this one play a vital role in guiding their decisions and supporting their health journeys.
